Latham, NY – BlueShield of Northeastern New York today announced several renewed contracts with the region’s leading hospitals, ensuring BlueShield members will continue to have access to the most comprehensive network of quality health care facilities and physicians in the region.

St. Peter's Health Partners in Albany and Albany Medical Center Hospital are among several newly executed agreements. BlueShield also announced renewed contracts with Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh, Ellis Medicine in Schenectady, Glen Falls Hospital, Saratoga Hospital and Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville. This follows a contract extension with St. Mary’s Healthcare, based in Amsterdam, in September 2020.

The locally based, not-for-profit health plan has a long history of offering its members comprehensive access to hospitals and physicians locally, as well as nationally through the Blue Cross Blue Shield BlueCard program. These latest contracts ensure that BlueShield’s members have access to quality care in the 13 counties that BlueShield has served for more than 70 years. These contracts, providing BlueShield members with stability and security, are especially significant during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, reassuring members that their health care coverage will be accessible at their hospital of choice.

“St. Peter’s Health Partners is pleased to continue our longstanding relationship with BlueShield of Northeastern New York,” said James K. Reed, MD, president and CEO of St. Peter’s Health Partners. “Now, more than ever, people in our community need comprehensive health coverage and easy access to compassionate, high-quality care.”

With 12,000 employees in more than 170 locations, St. Peter’s Health Partners is the Capital District’s most comprehensive not-for-profit integrated health-care network, providing high-quality, compassionate, and sophisticated care to thousands of people every day. St. Peter’s Health Partners is a member of Trinity Health, one of the nation’s largest Catholic health systems.

“BlueShield of Northeastern New York is committed to serving the health care needs of the Capital District, as we have for more than 75 years,” said Keith Dolan, regional executive, BlueShield of Northeastern New York. “We are proud to continue offering the most comprehensive network of quality health care facilities and physicians to our members in all 13 counties of the region.”

With nearly 8,000 health care professionals in its network, members can utilize the provider search tool on BlueShield’s website to see the health plan’s full comprehensive network of providers and facilities. Terms of the multi-year agreements were not disclosed.
